Texoma Trophies
(9.8.08)
Trophies can come in many forms. For the fly angler trophies can be big fish, hard to catch fish, beautiful places, and the list goes on. After discussing this with clients this summer, we realized another form… the striper blitz.
A Texoma striper blitz is essentially a big school of stripers on a topwater feeding frenzy. Truly a spectacle of nature, at its peak it is measured in acres, lasts for hours, and may move up to several miles. Fly fishing paradise.
Perhaps the closest things to compare it to in the sporting world is first; a dove hunt where the sky turns dark with dove, and secondly, the morning flight of snow geese to the South Texas rice prairies. All are target rich environments that produce long lasting memories.
The blitz can be predictable and consistent in the summer, and as such, should be strategically targeted.
Anyone who has ever experienced a Texoma Striper Blitz will always agree that it is indeed a trophy in its own right.
